THE PEACOCKS LOVE STORY

                                             THE PEACOCKS LOVE STORY

Dated:  7th July, 2013

This is heart touching story about  those beautiful birds called peacocks. Everyone loves the peacock for it striking beauty and elegance. It is the chariot of  Lord Karthik Son of Lord Shiva. Lord Krishna loved peacocks and always wore peacock feathers as a token of his affection towards the birds.
This is a heart touching story about peacocks narrated to me by my students Abhishek sharma and kiran Moi Bid, both doing their Ist MBA in Amrita, Coimbatore.
It is said to be customary of the male and female peacock birds never to come body touch like other birds, for mating. The male bird is very possessive and cannot bear the separation from his spouse even for a very short time. He perches in a tree nearby, separate. Peacocks never live together in a same tree.
You might hear them emitting peculiar honking sounds, communicating to each other. It would seem as if one was asking a question and the other answering it. Assured that his mate was certainly near him, the male keeps silent. His proud little heart brimming with love for her !
When the female bird flies away somewhere faraway, and the male does not get answering honks from her, he gets frantic. Then, he keeps on pouring out his anxiety and grief by  his queer sorrowful  honking sounds, till the female finally arrives and responds by her sounds.
When he hears the female, his happiness is boundless. His happiness is expressed by a most graceful  dance he conducts by twirling around and flapping his magnificent wings and spreading his beautiful tail feathers, proudly. From the other tree, his soulmate watches his every step and enjoying it.She is very pleased  by her soulmate’s show of affection and makes calls expressing her love for him.
When the rains come and the skies are dull with rain clouds, the atmosphere heightens the desire and love for his lovemate in the heart of the male peacock. He begins a fantastic dance, making  calculated steps and spreading his beautiful feathers fully that they shone in the dim light and dancing in an enraptured manner. From nearby, his spouse watched seemingly stunned with his performance.
When the dance had ended, the male peacock folded his wings and stood in a stooped manner and begins to weep with happiness, tears streaming from his eyes.
Seeing this, the female pleased with the wonderful performance of her beloved, rushes forward to comfort him .She caresses his weeping eyes  with her boundless love and deep affection and drinks the tears. In the process, the female gets fertilised!
The tears are said to contain  some substance that fertilises the female and in due course she lays eggs and brings forth their young ones.
